Corporate Social Responsibility

First Ferry strives not only to provide quality public transport services to Hong Kong, but also endeavour to fulfill their corporate social responsibility by participating in various charity and community activities, implementing a series of green measures to protect the environment as well as emphasizing on staff development and fulfillment.

Charity and Community Services

A volunteer team was formed by First Ferry to actively participate in various charity and community activities as well as render their support to deprived communities. Over the past few years, First Ferry has been accredited with many awards and recognitions by different organizations – the “Caring Company” logo by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service and 'Heart to Heart Company' by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups – in recognition of their outstanding achievement in corporate citizenship.

2005 - 2011

First Ferry and First Ferry (Macau) have been named “Caring Company” logo for seven consecutive years by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service

2006 - 2012

First Ferry has been recognized as “Heart to Heart Company” for six consecutive years by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups

Environmental Protection

In view of the deteriorating climatic conditions stemmed from global warming and pollution problems, "Save our Planet, Protect the Environment" has become a growing global issue. First Ferry is committed to implementing a series of measures aimed at promoting environmental conservation through reducing damage to the environment, energy saving and recycling.

Besides, First Ferry has taken several moves to re-fit the vessels to enhance their environmental friendliness.

Environmentally-friendly engines are employed which is fitted with an electronic control device and a fuel oil common rail system, that is able to achieve significant reduction in soot emission at low engine speeds, as well as low fuel consumption over the entire performance range, resulting in low emission of carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxide (NOx).
Using non-toxic anti-fouling coating for vessels which prevents organisms such as barnacle and weed from building up on the underwater hull. The smooth coating surface also helps to reduce carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide emission from engines.
Tinted glass panels in passenger cabins are adopted which can reduce heat radiation from the sun to passenger cabins and thus lower indoor temperature, resulting in less power consumption of air-conditioning.

Over the past few years, First Ferry was awarded the "Energywi$e" Label and the "Wastewi$e" Label, in recognition of their efforts in environmental protection.

First Ferry participated in a trial of Ultra-Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD) on local vessels launched by the Environmental Protection Department, exploring the feasibility of switching to USLD which causes less damage to the environment

First Ferry supported the “Earth Hour” organized by World Wide Fund-Hong Kong and switched off unnecessary lightings at the back office and piers for an hour

Sponsored “Community Used Clothes Recycling Bank Scheme” held by Friends of the Earth (HK) with the aim in sending out green message to outlying islanders

Concerns on staff

First Ferry demonstrates its concern on staff development and fulfillment by providing diversified training courses adn leisure classes to the staff, nominating them for different recognition schemes as well as holding different kinds of staff activities to help maintain staff’s work-life balance.

Staff activities

A variety of staff activities have been held by First Ferry’s Recreation Group and staff were also encouraged to form teams to participate in different sports competitions with a view to enhance team spirit and instill a sense of belonging.

Boat trips were arranged for visits to Tung Lung Island and Ninepins Island.

First Ferry’s staff partook in “NWS Basketball Competition”.
