St. Paul's Façade -
|
St. Paul's Church was built in 1602, the first
Western college for missionaries in the Far East. Later the
Church was turned into an army barrack. A fire started in
1835 destroyed the Church poorly that only the front façade
was left. The façade now serves as a symbol of Macau. |
| Leal Senado Square |
Situated in the heart of Macau's central shopping
area is "Largo do Senado" The Senado Square is paved
with colourful pedal stones of traditional Southern European
style. Festive occasions and all sorts of cultural and leisure
programmes are usually held here. |
A-Ma Temple -
|
The legend of A-Ma is full of mysteries. Once
upon a time in the 16th century, a poor girl, after numerous
attempts, got on board by a kind-hearted fisherman. A tempest
wrecked all the other boats except the one carrying this girl.
This girl then emerged into a goddess upon arrival in Macau.
A-Ma Temple was built in memorial of this goddess which many
fishermen truly believed. |
| Maritime Museum - |
The Maritime Museum was built at the old Number
One Wharf Pier, the place where the first Portuguese landed
in Macau. The museum demonstrated evolution of Macau maritime
history; from traditional fisheries to seaborne trade where
east meets west. The museum also displays all sorts of maritime
technology and transport modes. The most spectacular are the
ship models displayed in the museum, and certainly is the
"New Ferry V", a high speed catamaran, from New
World First Ferry Services Limited! The museum is closed on
every Tuesday. |
